AI Apartment Design Project 2026: What It Actually Delivers (and What It Doesn't)
A design studio charges $1,000–$3,000 and takes 6–12 weeks. Then approval rounds, revisions, more revisions — typically 3–4 months from first call to final mockup. I built and deployed an AI interior design service at onout.org, and tested it on 200+ real room photos across different conditions. Here's what you actually get — not a marketing pitch.

Key facts
- AI covers the visualization phase (style, color, furniture layout) — typically 80% of what people hire a designer for at the concept stage
- Studio project cost: $1,000–$3,000. AI visualization: $300 one-time or $50/month
- Neural network preserves room geometry: walls, windows, and doors stay in place
- AI does not replace: working drawings, electrical/plumbing plans, furniture specs with real dimensions
In our experience auditing the page "AI Apartment Design Project 2026: What It Actually Delivers (and What It Doesn'…", the useful angle is not another generic platform list, but the operating decision: costs, data export, access rules, and support workload for ai interior design.
What the AI Actually Does with Your Room Photo
The neural network doesn't "draw" a new interior from scratch. It analyzes 4 things from your photo:
Geometry: wall angles, room proportions, ceiling height estimated from wall ratios. This is why corner-of-room shots produce 80–90% accuracy, while side-wall shots give 40–60%.
Light sources: windows are the primary reference. The model determines where light comes from and preserves that lighting scheme in the generated design. If the window is on the right in your photo, it's on the right in the render — shadows land correctly.
Surfaces: floor, walls, ceiling, furniture — classified into separate layers. Walls and floors are restyled according to the chosen direction. Large furniture (sofa, bed, wardrobe) is either replaced or styled to match.
Clutter level: this matters. A room full of objects is partially preserved. Small decorative items — vases, books, artwork — sometimes "bleed through" into the generated design in strange ways. For the cleanest result: clear the room before photographing.
Comparison: Studio, Freelancer, or AI?
| Method | Timeline | Cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design studio | 6–12 weeks | $1,000–$3,000 | Full project: concept + blueprints + specifications |
| Freelancer | 4–8 weeks | $350–$900 | Concept + basic drawings |
| AI visualization | 30 seconds | $50/mo | Style visualization in your actual room |
AI is not competing with the full design process. It's replacing the first phase — the one where you spend 1–3 weeks figuring out whether you want Scandinavian or loft, warm tones or cool. That decision now takes 5 minutes.
Where AI Fails: Conditions from Real Testing
From 200+ tested room submissions at onout.org:
Non-standard architecture. Khrushchev-era apartments with niches, loft spaces with sloped ceilings, rooms with columns — the AI often "corrects" these to standard geometry. The render looks beautiful but doesn't match the actual space.
Small rooms. Rooms under 10 m² (typical bathrooms, entry halls in older buildings) — AI frequently makes them visually larger than they are. Realistic-looking, not realistic.
Engineering infrastructure. Pipes, radiators, electrical panels — the AI ignores them. They may disappear or shift in the visualization. Fine for style decisions, not for construction planning.
Complex layouts. Open-plan kitchens with island dividers, L-shaped rooms — single-photo capture rarely shows the full geometry. Multiple photos from different angles improve results significantly.
3 Steps to Get Your AI Design Project
Step 1. Photograph each room from a corner in daylight (JPG/PNG/HEIC from a smartphone). Corner angle, daylight, minimal clutter — these three factors determine output quality more than any other variable.
Step 2. Choose a style from 10+ options: Scandinavian, loft, minimalism, classic, hi-tech, Japandi, Provence. Or describe in text: "bright kitchen with wooden facades and white countertop."
Step 3. Get visualization in 30 seconds. The neural network preserves the layout and changes only finishes and furniture. Generate multiple variants; show the best ones to your contractor before buying anything.
FAQ
Does AI replace a designer? For the visualization and style selection phase — yes. For working drawings, electrical plans, and furniture specifications with actual dimensions — no. The optimal workflow: AI for concept (save 40–60% of design budget), designer for documentation.
Is the layout preserved? Yes. Walls, windows, and doors stay in place. The AI changes finishes, furniture, and decor.
Can I use it for a kitchen or bathroom? Yes, but with lower accuracy for small kitchens (under 6 m²) and bathrooms. The engineering constraints (pipe locations, ventilation) aren't visible in the render. For these rooms, use AI for style direction; verify all decisions with a specialist.
What's included in the $300 one-time or $50/month service? Unlimited renders, 10+ interior styles, your branding if you're deploying for a business (studio, real estate agency, developer), Telegram bot or web interface, API for website integration. Setup: 2 days.
